The Karate Kid: latest trailer

Columbia Pictures has launched a new trailer  for The Karate Kid - the forthcoming remake of the classic '80s movie that starred Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio.

The first film - for which the late Pat Morita received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Mr Miyagi - is easily the best, all thanks to an amazing soundtrack (Joe Esposito's "You're the Best" is amazing), the presence of the gorgeous Elisabeth Shue, some mouthwatering cars, the famous term "Wax on, wax off, and Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita's unforgettable performances. So we're a little bit excited that a new Karate Kid is set to hit cinemas on 30 July 2010.

Whether the film starring Jaden Smith (son of Will Smith) and Jackie Chan will be anywhere near as good as the original, remains to be seen, but we're still going to see regardless of whether the critics give us the greenlight or not.

The Karate Kid plot synopsis:

In Columbia Pictures' The Karate Kid, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's latest career move has taken them to China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying, but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, and kung fu prodigy, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease.  With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a kung fu master.  As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and skill, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the adventure of a lifetime.
